Past Football Games

The Lions High School All-Star Football Game has been a tradition in Northern California since 1978. The North vs South rivalry brings intensity and grit to the most elite football game in the Northstate!

Football Tradition for over 45 years!

1978

A good foot and a good arm finished dead even in the inaugural game as the North, led by the passing of Corning’s Nash Crisosto, and South, riding the fortunes of field goal kicker Hector Franco of Colusa, knotted at 15-15. Crisosto had 12 completions in 19 attempts for 194 yards and one touchdown. Corning teammate Steve Fitzgerald caught six of those tosses including an 18-yard touchdown pass late in the game to cut the North deficit to 15-13. Crisosto scampered in for the tying two-point conversion. Franco booted field goals of 43, 29 and 27 yards. Warren Benamati of Willows led North rushers with 89 yards on 14 carries while Larry Abinante of Yuba City paced the South with 101 yards on 22 tries. George Calkins of Yuba City coached the South and Bob Reid of Anderson headed the North.

1979

The South claimed the first series victory in a see-saw affair. The North gained a first quarter lead on a 1-yard run by Corning’s Kirk Jennings. The South countered with nine second quarter points on a safety and a 9-yard run by Lindhurst’s Larry Guanzon. After intermission, Jennings put the North back on top with a 2-yard touchdown, but Guanzon scored again on a 3-yard run to give the South the 16-13 win. Gridley’s Bruce Ebbe guided the winning South squad while Red Bluff’s Bill Jacobs led the North.

1980

The South stretched its dominance to two wins and a tie with a convincing 21-6 passing of the North. Key to the southlander’s success was a stingy defense yielding but 175 yards. For the third straight year, the North scored first. Mike Lawrence of Orland took a 12-yard pass from Gale Gilbert of Red Bluff to culminate a 68-yard march just three minutes into the game. The South retaliated with a 9-yard scoring pass from Pleasant Valley’s Kip Hayes to Marysville’s Dave Pillsbury, an 11-yard run by Loyal Miner of Pleasant Valley and a 14-yard interception return by Bill George of Biggs. Del Kalbach of Biggs coached the South team while Joe Blevins of Big Valley guided the North.

1981

The North celebrated its first series win, 7-6, making a first quarter 17-yard touchdown run by Anderson’s David Westlake and his ensuing extra point stand up against the passing onslaught of the South’s Brad Ziel of Paradise. Ziel landed 20 of 40 passes in friendly hands for 317 yards, but four were snared by the enemy. Ziel hit Dan Stoner of Chico on a 9 yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter, but a two-point conversion pass fell incomplete. Gary Burton of Corning coached the winning North squad and Dennis Helms of Paradise coached the South.

1982

A stubborn defense and the passing of Chico’s Steve Schmillen catapulted the South to a 34-7 halftime lead en-route to a 48-19 victory over the North. Schmillen was 12 of 26 for 178 yards and a 14-yard touchdown to Ed Bird of Las Plumas. Schmillen also had a 7-yard touchdown run. A solid defense against the rush forced North quarterback Doug Miller of Enterprise to pass often. He completed 15 of 35 passes for 260 yards including touchdowns of 41 and 12 yards to Tim Masters of Orland. Five of his passes were intercepted. Masters scored the North’s other touchdown on a two yard run. David O’Neal of Lindhurst had scoring runs of 8 and 2 yards for the South while Todd
Vowell of Pleasant Valley scored on a 2-yard run and Doug Ziel scored on a 3-yard run. Bird also added a 30-yard fumble return for a score. John Beck of Chico coached the South and Gene Pisenti of Burney guided the North.

1983

Anderson’s Tim Moore and Dan Trotter keyed the North’s 21-18 win. Moore caught nine passes for 90 yards, including a 7-yarder from Trotter with 10 minutes remaining to seal the win. Trotter also had a 10-yard scoring run and Duane Conner of Big Valley scored on a 4-yard run. Trotter completed 14 of 23 passes for 128 yards. The South’s Aaron Lee of Quincy scored on a 24-yard hook and ladder play from Westwood’s Roger Cox on a pass from Yuba City’s Chris Peterson. Lee also scored on a 65-yard run. Jim Harrison of Sutter scored the other South touchdown on an 11-yard pass from Peterson. Don Duncan of Etna picked up the win for the North while Geoff Wahl of East Nicolaus took the loss for the South.

1984

The North’s dominating ground attack amassed 440 yards with Orland’s James Olson leading the way with 180 yards on 22 carries and touchdowns of 2 and 40 yards in a 47-13 North win. Pete Clemens, a 6-foot, 200-pounder from Dunsmuir, was inserted into the game in the second half and collected an incredible 158 yards on seven carries with touchdowns of 73, 31 and 3 yards. The South’s biggest asset was its passing game. Brad Reager of Chico finished the night with 186 yards in the air by hitting 12 of 22 attempts. Reager hit Bobby O’Neal of Lindhurst with a 24-yard scoring strike in the second quarter for one of the South’s two TDs. The North dominated the second
half by outscoring the South 25-6. Darrell Meyer of Anderson had a 3-yard scoring run and Burney’s Terry Arndt scored on a 6-yard run. Mike Dana of Colusa scored the South’s other TD on a 1-yard run. Bob Hall of Modoc led the North while Al Shuler of Chester headed the South.

1985

In the most explosive offensive display in series history to date, the South overcame a 32-12 second quarter deficit to defeat the North 47-38. The North relied heavily on the running of Jim Tomasin of Shasta, who had 143 yards on 25 carries with two touchdowns. He also caught five passes for 53 yards. Red Bluff’s Flint Glines helped the North cause with a series record 101-yard kickoff return touchdown. Chester’s Mike Burleson and Chico’s Ken White keyed a strong second half effort that gave the South the victory. Burleson threw two touchdown passes to Portola’s David Martinez and finished with 12 yards passing (10 of 22). White ran 20 times for 132 yards and
scored on runs of 6 and 30 yards. Otto Brackett of Greenville coached the triumphant South team while Ed Lombardi of Lassen led the North.

1986

The North’s size and speed earned credit for the North’s 25-6 victory. Tulelake’s Paul Idrogo was the workhorse for the North with 129 yards on 25 carries, including an 8-yard touchdown dash. Other North touchdowns came from Bob Halderman of Hayfork, Aaron Blakeley of McCloud and Kyle Gilbreath of Enterprise. The South’s lone score came on a 5-yard pass from Yuba City’s Torben Ulrich to Chico’s Doug Williams. Hayfork’s Frank Frye coached the North to the win while Jim McNulty of Oroville guided the South.

1987

The South took over the lead in the series at 5-4-1 with a 21-15 come-from-behind win manufactured by the Yuba City quarterback-end combination of Greg Brown and Jim Arnold and the power running of Gridley’s Kord Hepworth. Brown completed 8 of 16 passes for 141 yards and a 46-yard touchdown to Arnold. Meanwhile Hepworth ran 19 times for 109 yards and two scores. The North carried a 15-13 lead going into the final quarter. Yreka’s Roger Murry ran in for a score and threw a two-point conversion pass to Burney’s Matt Schmidt. Bruce Farrel of Enterprise scored on an 8-yard run. Don Duncan of Etna guided the North while Geoff Wahl of East Nicolaus led the
South squad.

1988

Anear capacity crowd of 4,000 witnessed the South post a 37-26 win at Shasta College in Redding. Despite a 15- 10 halftime lead for the North, the South came back on the arm of Chico’s Scott Thompson, who threw for two touchdowns and 187 yards. Thompson completed 10-yard touchdown to Quincy’s Tony Camp and a 12-yarder to Quincy’s Tony Clem. Camp also caught a 34-yard TD pass from Yuba City’s Chris Phillips. David Mann of Hamilton led a late North comeback, throwing touchdown passes for 23 yards to Anderson’s Jason Provence and 10 yards to Burney’s Marty Pisenti. Mann completed 8 of 15 passes for 138 yards. Dennis Lorenzetti of Mt. Shasta was the coach for the North while Don Ray of Quincy led the winning South team.

1989

Trailing 7-3 at halftime, the South scored on its first possession of the second half and went on to win 17-13. The go-ahead touchdown came on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Kurt Young of Biggs to Brian Brown of Yuba City. Jerry Clements of Shasta led the North, throwing for 147 yards while completing six of 20 passes. He had TD tosses of 29 yards to Tulelake’s Nick Macken and 13 yards to Shasta’s Scott Reese. Ed Stewart of Oroville’s 4-yard touchdown run late in the game gave the South an insurmountable 17-7 lead. Stewart finished with 112 yards on 22 carries. South coach Del Kalbach of Biggs won his second Lion’s game (also winning in 1980) while Clark Tuthill of Shasta took the loss.

1990

A crowd of 2,500 in University Stadium at Chico State watched the versatility of Gridley’s Joe Hughes prove the difference as the South captured its fourth straight win, 26-13. Hughes scored on a 98-yard run to open the game scoring. He also had touchdown passes of seven yards to Sutter’s Matt Minton and 13 yards to Yuba City’s Robert Fitzpatrick. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 129 yards. Ted McEndree of Sutter also scored on a 9-yard run for the South. Enterprise’s Ricky Allen scored on a 5-yard run for the North to tie the score at halftime 7-7. He also threw a 37-yard touchdown to Red Bluff’s Mickey Garner. Dave Lake of Gridley coached the South to the win while Darryl Baeth of Tulelake led the North.

1991

The North ended a four-year losing streak with a 27-14 victory at Shasta College’s Memorial Stadium. Shasta High School’s Keith Fleuret rushed for 130 yards on 14 totes for the North while Hamilton quarterback Sergio Villasenor completed 12 of 22 passes for 148 yards. Marc Foster of Orland scored two touchdowns while Josh Gammons of Willows added another. Chris Hubbard of Etna also scored a 27-yard fumble return. Scott Johnson of Hamilton was the head man for the North while Dave Driffill of Colusa coached the South.

1992

A packed Shasta College Stadium watched as Eli Boudreau of Red Bluff quarterbacked the North team to a 25-6 victory. The South led 6-0 entering the second quarter, but Boudreau took advantage of the South defense and threw a 57-yard TD pass to former Red Bluff teammate Mike Hall to tie the game. Boudreau later threw a nine yard touchdown pass to Orland’s Aaron Schermer to put the North ahead for good. Key defensive players for the North included Red Bluff nose guard John Clinger, Orland linebacker Bill Brasch and Corning defensive end Dusty Langston. Boudreau was 11 of 13 for 191 yards. Outstanding play also came from Lassen tackle Brandon Ellena and Anderson wide receiver Jeff Ogden, who scored on a 16-yard run. The South scored its only touchdown on an 11-yard pass from Colusa’s Danny Ruiz to Marysville’s Tracy Ponce. Paul Johnson of Red Bluff led the North to victory while Geoff Wahl of East Nicolaus coached the South.

1993

In one of the closest and most thrilling games since the 1978 opener, the South team upped its series advantage to 9-6-1 with a 20-18 victory. The North drew first blood with a game-opening 77-yard drive culminated by a 1-yard sneak by QB Andy Stahl of Anderson. The South countered with two touchdown passes of 35 and 42 yards from Gridley’s Tim Hughes to Yuba City’s Derek Minnatee. While the North fought back with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Stahl to Savon Maxwell and a 42-yard TD from Stahl to Etna’s Sparrow Tang, the South got the tying score on a 4-yard run by Live Oak’s Jose Curiel. Chris Weaver of Pleasant Valley added the two-point conversion that proved to be the difference in the win. Curtis Parks of Williams coached the South to the win while Modoc’s Shaun Wood led the North.

1994

The North team, coached by Mark Pettengill of Foothill, pleased the local fans in Shasta College’s stadium with a resounding 44-14 victory over the South, reducing the South’s lead in the series to 9-7-1. Corning’s Earl Murr scored the first quarter’s only touchdown on a 14-yard blast up the middle after a center snap over the head of the South punter set up the North at the South 13. In the second quarter, Bryan Sherman of Lassen threw 38 yards to Red Bluff’s Mitch Johnson, but the South answered with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Pierce’s
Chuck Wayman to Sutter’s Erik Christofferson. Sherman added a 15-yard TD to Johnson while Chad Cook of Trinity scored on a 3-yard run, Dan Osborne of Burney ran in from the 48 and Tom Hair of Hayfork scored from the 9. The South scored one final TD on a 58-yard run by Wheatland’s Andy Onyett. Live Oak’s Jim Arostegui coached the South team.

1995

The North team, coached by Shaun Wood of Modoc, pulled to within one game of the South at 9-8-1 with a 20- 12 victory. The North lost the statistical advantage to the South, which racked up 332 yards of offense compared to the North’s 297. The two teams battled back and forth with the North scoring first on an 84-yard pass from Red Bluff’s Josh Caylor to Shasta’s Jason Jacoby. The South answered with a 1-yard scoring plunge by Gridley’s Steve Young, but the North regained the lead when Ryland Sanders of Red Bluff ran 2 yards for a score. The North cut the margin to 14-12 with a 1-yard run by Pleasant Valley’s Josh Gulbrandsen, but the South extended its lead with a 10-yard scoring pass from Caylor to Foothill’s Andrew Boesiger. Caylor completed 8 of 14 passes for 164 yards while the South’s Marco Gonzales of Paradise was 11 of 29 for 187 yards. Chico’s Marco Jackson led the South running game with 102 yards on 18 carries. Doug Kaelin of Gridley led the South squad.

1996

The North, coached by Clay Erro of Enterprise, won 39-14 in a game that was a contest only for a half. Anthony Brown of Foothill (9 yards), Ray Potillor of Anderson (55) and Jeremy Seaholm of Central Valley (10) ran for the North Touchdowns with Nick Mendenhall of Etna catching a 28-yard touchdown pass from Enterprise QB Ryan Kacalek for the other score. Jared Chaffin of Lassen kicked four field goals for the North (34, 38, 46, 36) to break the game record set by Colusa’s Hector Franco in 1978. The South, coached by Sutter’s Scott Turner, scored twice in the second quarter on passes by Colusa’s Todd MacKaben to Andy Sweet of Pierce (8 yards) and to Peter Slater
of Pleasant Valley (38 yards). MacKaben completed 14 of 37 passes for 196 yards while Kacalek was 13 of 29 for 139 yards. Potillor ran for 136 yards on 16 carries while Brown ran 27 times for 113 yards.

1997

The North overcame a 14-6 halftime deficit to eke out a 22-20 win, giving North coach Bob Hall of Corning his second All-Star win in two tries. The South, coached by Geoff Wahl of East Nicolaus, built its lead on an 11-yard run by East Nicolaus’ Ryan Gallagher and a 3-yard pass from the Spartans’ Brad Lauppe to Wheatland’s Mike Lucier. The North tied the game at 14-14 by blocking a South field goal attempt and getting a 90-yard return by Weed’s Robert Russell. Ricky Ray of Shasta, who also had a 7-yard scoring pass to Etna’s Dean Smiley, threw the two-point conversion to tie the game. Erube McGana of West Valley gave the North the lead with a 26-yard scoring run, but the South answered with a 76-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Pleasant Valley’s Benson Manento. Russell nearly returned the kickoff for a touchdown, but was stopped at the South 27. An interception by Williams’ Javier Garcia ended the North threat at the South 3, but Smiley broke through the line and dropped the South running back in the end zone for a safety, giving the North a 10-9-1 advantage in the series.

1998

The two teams scored early and late in the 21st game, with the North team, coached by Big Valley’s Matt Hunsaker, winning 24-15. The North team drew first blood late in the first quarter on a 14-yard run by Foothill’s Joe Stallworth. The South, coached by Biggs’ Mike Pena, struck back on a 46-yard touchdown pass from Colusa’s Dan Salazar to Biggs’ Kevin Baxley. Salazar also threw to Colusa’s Andrew Wallace for the two-point conversion. The North went ahead on a 34-yard field goal by Lassen’s Brian Jensen to set up a frantic fourth quarter. The North upped its lead to 17-8 on a 21-yard run by Corning QB Garrett White with 7:33 left in the game. The South answered
on the ensuing kickoff when Baxley took the kick and handed the ball to Chico’s Sean Hall, who raced 77 yards for a touchdown to make it 17-15 with 7:06 to go. But White clinched it for the North with a 47-yard keeper with less than a minute to play.

1999

The South ended a five-game losing streak with a 28-14 win over the North at Shasta College, closing the gap in the series to 11-10-1. All four South touchdowns came via the air, three by Northern Section offensive MVP Brian Jones of Pleasant Valley and one by Quincy’s Matt Ray. Jones threw TD passes of 38 yards to Yuba City’s Kevin Jenson and 15 yards to Quincy’s Aaron Montgomery early in the game and later added a 70-yard scoring toss to Chris Noor of Las Plumas. Ray opened the scoring with a 33-yard TD pass to Quincy teammate Brandon Heater. The North rushing attack did score one touchdown in the second quarter when Northern Section all-time leading
rusher Oscar Rigg of Lassen fumbled at the 1-yard line, only to have QB Perry Cloud of Foothill scoop up the ball and score the touchdown. Cloud also threw a 74-yard touchdown pass to Chris Feminis of Mt. Shasta and completed 10 of 32 passes for 229 yards. The South threw for 359 yards total with Jones completing 9 of 20 passes for 211 yards and Ray completing 11 of 17 passes for 148. Feminis led all receivers with five catches for 156 yards. Tom McCormack of Wheatland was the victorious South coach while Fall River’s Steve Hubauer coached the
North.

2000

The Red Bluff passing combination of quarterback Justin McKim and receiver Mike Cox connected 12 times for 248 yards and two touchdowns in leading the North squad to a 37-15 win in the first game of the new millennium played at Marysville’s War Memorial Stadium. Cox caught nine passes for 165 yards and a touchdown in the first half for North coach Paul Johnson to forge a 24-7 lead. McKim, who completed 20 of 32 passes for a game record 362 yards, also hit Foothill’s Joe Spurlin and Etna’s Jessie McNames for touchdowns in the first half. Live Oak’s Justin Epperson threw TD passes to his Live Oak teammate Brian Sowden and Wheatland’s Jeff Watson for the
South’s scores. Tyler Holmes of Lassen returned an interception 53 yards for the final North touchdown. The contest was the final game in the coaching careers for both Johnson of the North and Oroville’s Jim McNulty of the South, who both retired earlier that year. The North holds the edge 12-10-1.

2001

Struggling for offensive continuity in the first half, the South, coached by Sutter’s Scott Turner, exploded for two third period touchdowns en route to a 21-7 victory. The lone North score came early in the second quarter when quarterback Tyler Lampella of Etna hit tight end Jonathan van Tol of Willows, who made a diving catch of the 11-yard pass for a 7-0 lead. Chico’s Garrett Cross set up the first South touchdown with an interception at the North 22. Wheatland’s Jim Baser capped the drive with a 9-yard run for the score. South QB Paul Reynolds of Sutter later added two scoring passes, throwing 27 yards to Greenville’s Nathaniel Bond and eight yards to Cross. Reynolds completed 10 of 26 passes for 107 yards while Baser rushed 26 times for 160 yards. Curtis Parks of Willows coached the North.

2002

Anyone hoping for an exciting contest featuring the run against the pass in the 25th annual Lions All-Star Football Game got exactly what they wanted. However, what most probably didn’t expect was for the North to pull out a 27-26 win by passing the ball. Using a punishing ground attack in the wishbone offense behind game MVP Kyle Harbaugh of Corning, the North played conservatively most of the game and ran the ball the majority of the game. But trailing 26-21 with 1 minute, 55 seconds left in the game and 97 yards from the end zone, North coach Randy Harrison of Hayfork knew that he needed to try something different. What Harrison came up with was a touchdown
drive that had pass plays from four different players, including a 10-yard touchdown pass from John Black of Lassen to Blake Thorn of Modoc with four seconds left in the game. While the North was jubilant following the touchdown, the game was far from over. With a penalty on the North during the kickoff, the South was given one last play with no time remaining. South quarterback Aaron Rodgers of Pleasant Valley scrambled and heaved a 50-yard pass to the front of the end zone, but Thorn intercepted the ball to end the game. Harbaugh set a new game record by rushing for 191 yards. Mike Pena of Biggs coached the South team.

2003

For the first time in the history of the Lions All-Star football game, it rained, and what a downpour. The rain started just before the end of the second quarter and the cloudburst continued throughout halftime. It continued sprinkling through the third quarter. The field was quite soaked and muddy and as a result neither team scored in the second half of a 17-9 North victory. Game MVP Austin Stack of Bishop Quinn scored a safety on defense and also had a rushing touchdown for the North, which was coached by Bishop Quinn’s Tim Nobles. Jeff Ray of Shasta hooked up with Bishop Quinn’s Logan Van Ert for a 62-yard touchdown. Mark Cooley of Hamilton coached the South team.

2004

Despite the MVP efforts of Red Bluff’s Shane Eller, the North’s win streak ended in a 32-28 setback to the South. Behind a blocked punt and recovery by Las Plumas’ Phillip Davis late in the third quarter, the South powered ahead 25-22. After stuffing the North on two straight possessions, the South widened its lead when Wheatland’s Adam McCleary scored on a 10-yard run. Eller and the North responded on the next possession as Eller hit Lassen’s Brian Duffy for a 25-yard scoring pass to cut the lead to 32-28. The North had another chance to take the lead, but Pleasant Valley’s Eric Clendenning intercepted an Eller pass to end the threat at the South 10 yard line. To earn the Ray Francis MVP Award, Eller ran for 113 yards and one touchdown and threw for 35 yards and another score. The South also scored on a 42-yard pass from East Nicolaus QB Patrick Daprato to Yuba City’s Jake Holmes while Brandon Delgado of Paradise had a rushing touchdown. Duffy also had an interception return for a score for the North. Rick Prinz of Paradise was the winning coach for the South while Greg Grandell of West Valley coached the North.

2005

For three and a half quarters of the 28th annual Lions All-Star football game, Enterprise’s Steve Valliere did all he could to put the North within striking distance. The rest of the North offense pushed in the fourth quarter to win 27-24. Valliere was the game’s MVP and tallied 226 total yards and two touchdowns, including a 75-yard punt return. Matt Nichols of West Valley had two passing touchdowns including a 32-yard toss to Shasta’s Jordan Webb. Quincy quarterback Eric West and receiver Jason Barreno connected for four touchdowns with Barreno catching 13 passes. Greg Grandell of West Valley was the winning coach while Pierce’s Doug Kaelin took the loss.

2006

Behind the running of West Valley running back Jordan Atwell, the North defeated the South 34-7 to give Central Valley’s Matt Hunsaker his second coaching win in the Lions Game. Atwell ran for 109 yards on 18 carries and a 17-yard touchdown. Nick Leedy of Central Valley added a 33-yard touchdown run while Corning’s Darren Nye completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Bishop Quinn’s Kevin Wacker and Boomer Fry of Hayfork caught a 15-yard scoring toss from Central Valley’s Scott Armstead. The South’s only score came late in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard pass from Chico’s Will Camy to Lindhurst’s Robbie Brown. Robert Wilson of Maxwell guided the South team.

2007

The South, under Lindhurst coach Mike Mason, dominated the North 45-19 with Pleasant Valley quarterback Jordan Rodgers completing 15 of 22 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns and Gridley running back Simon Lamson rushing 18 times for 125 yards and two scores. Lamson was the recipient of the Ray Francis MVP award. Rodgers threw two TD passes for Viking teammate Blake Page and one to Paradise’s Jeffery Maehl. The South defense limited the North to just eight yards rushing on 36 carries. The North scored on an 82-yard kickoff return by Shasta’s Torsten Waurig and a 75-yard fumble return by Jessie Harer of Modoc. Harer also scored on a 13-yard run. Paul Nevarez of Live Oak and Kinjite King of Lindhurst also got into the scoring act for the South, each crossing the goal line on a short run. The South cut the North’s overall lead in the series to 16-13-1. Joe Blevins of Mt. Shasta coached the North.

2008

The South won for the second year in a row, defeating the North 27-19 at Oroville’s Harrison Stadium. Paradise quarterback Jon Hays received the Ray Francis MVP award after leading the South to the win. He threw for 124 yards and a 3-yard touchdown to Pleasant Valley’s Sean Reynolds. He also rushed for 47 yards and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns. Lassen’s Josh Baum and Tulelake’s Rey Chavolla each scored in the first half for the North while Cole Johnston of Foothill tied the game in the third quarter on a 4-yard run. Dan Henry of Champion Christian gained the victory for the South and cut the North’s advantage to 16-14-1. Bryon Hamilton of Foothill coached the North team.

2009

The North ended a two-game winning streak by the South by holding off a late rally to capture a 38-32 win at Shasta College. The two teams were tied at 32-32 midway through the fourth quarter when the North marched 46 yards on eight straight runs, capped by a 2-yard run by Manny Barragan of Yreka. The North, coached by Shaun Wood of Modoc, got a standout performance from West Valley quarterback Josh Barrett, who was 11 of 18 for 265 yards and four touchdowns to earn the MVP trophy. Cole McKenzie of Red Bluff caught two of those touchdown passes and grabbed five passes for 179 yards. Kurtis Cartwright of Trinity also caught a 13-yard TD pass and Shasta's Bryan Zuurbier had the other TD reception. Barragan also returned a kickoff 96 yards for a score. Cody Pastorino of Willows and Malcolm Webb of Wheatland starred for the South. Pastorino caught a 60-yard TD pass from Sutter's Jon Garcia and also had a 75-yard kickoff return to open the second half. Webb scored on a pair of short runs. Cullen Meyer of Marysville coached for the South. The North leads the all-time series 17-14-1.

2010

The North was shutout at halftime but switched roles from that point on, scoring 26 unanswered points to topple the South 26-10 at Enterprise Community Stadium in Redding.  The South's one lone touchdown came on the first drive of the game when Paradise's Garrett Rice connected with Pleasant Valley receiver Logan Valencia for a 36-yard score.  South kicker Alberto Pena added a 29-yard field goal to make it 10-0.  The South held the North out of the endzone before half with a goal line stand but didn't carry the momentum into the second half.  North's Darren Lee of Lassen, the game's MVP rushing nine times for 50 yards and playing linebacker, broke multiple tackles and dove his way for a 15-yard score to ignite the North's offense.  North coach Darren Trueblood got an all-around performance from Foothill's Scott Faris, who threw a short touchdown pass to Corning's Fontaine Richardson before scampering in for a 16-yard touchdown and also intercepting a pass on defense.  Orland's Cole Sampson dove across the goal line for a 1-yard touchdown for the game's final score.

2011

The North stretched its winning streak over the South to three games with a 28-14 win at Harrison Stadium in Oroville.  Two special team scores for the North was the difference.  The North set the tone on the opening kickoff when Shasta's Clay Cavender went untouched for a 94-yard kickoff return touchdown and game MVP Trevor Baum of Lassen added a 77-yard punt return touchdown in the second quarter to put the North up 21-0.  Baum, the second straight Lassen player to take home MVP honors, did virtually everything - 21 rushing, 26 receiving yards, three PATs, three punts for 119 yards and intercepted a pass on defense.  Hayfork's 8-man football standout Scott Harrison split those two North scores with a 15-yard touch down run on the second drive of the game.  South running back Derick Seward of Wheatland scored on a 34-yard run, but the North answered with a one yard touchdown plunge to go up 28-6.  South quarterback David Schroeder hit LaCarlis Moore for a 23-yard touchdown pass and the two point conversion to make it 28-14 but the North held onto the ball and ran out the clock.  Harrison had 78 yards on 8 carries, Lassen's Richard Murphy threw 4 for 5 for 59 yards.

2012

11-Man - History was made at “Bob Reid Stadium” on the campus of Anderson High School. Not only did the North win for the fourth straight time, but the 35th Annual Lions All-Star Football Game finished with the game’s largest margin of victory ever: ironically a 35-point margin (56-21). Orland High coach Mike McDonald allowed the quarterback that led his Trojans to a section championship, to lead the offense and Austin Schmeltzer didn’t disappoint.
